Perforation of Medium Thickness Metal Plate by Flat-Nosed Projectile
2019
A model of flat-nosed projectile perforating medium thickness metal plate at normal incidence is proposed in this paper. The perforation process of metal plate is divided into three phases: transient impact phase, penetration phase and plugging phase. In transient impact phase, different regions are divided and the end time of this stage is calculated according to the propagation of shock wave and rarefaction wave; In penetration phase, by calculating whether the projectile has head deformation region, it can be divided into two different cases. The length of deformation region is dependent on the velocity of projectile, the penetration velocity and the plastic wave propagation velocity; In plugging phase, the plugging failure of the plate is connected with an adiabatic shearing process. Moreover, the effect of the entrance phase is analyzed by using finite element software and taken into account in this model. The calculated results of the theoretical model are in good agreement with the experimental data.
