Intravesical instillation of PA-MSHA injection against postoperative recurrence of bladder cancer

2016
Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of PA-MSHA injection for preventing recurrence of non muscle-invasive bladder cancer. Methods 137 patients with recurrent non muscle-invasive bladder cancer after TURBT were assigned into two groups. Treatment group (n=68) received instillation of 10 ml PA-MSHA injection after 1 week of the operation for 12 months, control group (n=69) received instillation of 20 mg Hydroxycamptothecin. The tumor recurrence rates and side effects after the treatment were evaluated. Results The recurrence rates were 16.2% (11/68) and 30.4% (21/69) of treatment group and control group respectively (P<0.05). There were no statistically significant difference regarding irritative symptoms of bladder (16.2% vs. 18.8%) and hematuria (11.8% vs. 8.7%) between treatment group and control group. Conclusions Intravesical instillation of PA-MSHA injection for postoperative recurrence of recurrent non muscle-invasive bladder cancer could be effective, safe and well tolerated.
