Triterpenoid sapogenins of Pittosporum phillyraeoides

Abstract A re-examination of the sapogenins from Pittosporum phillyraeoides leaves revealed the presence of two new natural products 27-desoxyphillyrigenin (3β-hydroxytaraxastan-28,20β-olide) and 23-hydroxyphillyrigenin (3β,23,27-trihydroxytaraxastan-28,20β-olide) together with dihydropriverogenin A, 16-desoxybarringtogenol C, barringtogenol C and the previously reported constituents phillyrigenin and R 1 -barrigenol. Spectral evidence is presented to establish the structure of phillyrigenin as 3β,27-dihydroxytaraxastan-28,20β-olide.
