Factors Related with Intention to Methadone Maintenance Treatment among Iranian Men Addicts

Drug abuse relapse could be cause avoid of daily activities, reduces confidence, accountability and efficiency of addict The purpose of this study was to determine the actors related to methadone maintenance treatment among sample of Iranian addict based on theory of planned behavior (TPB) as a theoretical framework. In this cross-sectional study, conducted in Yasuj County, the south of Iran, during 2013, a total of 700 men addicts, were randomly selected to participate voluntarily in the study. Participants filled out a standard questionnaire. Data were analyzed by SPSS version 21 using bivariate correlations, and linear regression statistical tests at 95% significant level. Result showed the three predictor variables of 1) attitude, 2) subjective norms, and 3) perceived behavioral control, accounted for 49% of the variation in the outcome measure of the methadone maintenance treatment intention. Our findings suggest, coping skills training, and increased social support for addicts could be beneficial results for the methadone maintenance treatment persistence and relapse prevention. (M.
