Chapter 10 Selection of Fine Grinding Mills

2007
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the features and selections of fine grinding mills. There are a number of grinding mills having different structure, size and performance. Each machine and method has its own features. It is important to understand the characteristics of the machine and the system including the related devices such as particle separation equipment and to make the best use of them. The fine grinding mills are classified often into five major groups: (1) impact mills, (2) ball media mills, (3) air jet mills, (4) roller mills, and (5) shearing attrition mills from the viewpoints of grinding machines. For the purpose of size reduction of solid particles, a number of different types of grinding mills are used in various engineering and industrial fields. The variety of the grinding machines is attributable to the diversity in the requirements for the grinding and the properties of the materials to be ground. For the selection of the grinding machine, the properties of the feed materials as well as the requirements for the product and capacity should be taken into consideration from the technical and economical viewpoints in practical use.
