Inthepresent paper, aninnovative modelfor themanagementofurbansolid wasteisproposed. The modelconsists ofaSpatio-temporal Geodatabase, integrated inaGeographical Information System(GIS)environment. Thismodeltakesintoconsideration alltheparameters of wasteproduction, suchaspopulation density, commercial traffic, roadnetwork andtherelative information (e.g. road width,etc). Temporalground-based analysis hasbeen applied fortheestimation oftheinterrelations between the abovefactors, and thevariations inwasteproduction betweenresidential andcommercial areas.Therefore, the modeltakesintoaccount aunified categorization ofallthe commercial andindustrial activities intheareaunderstudy. Themaingoalofthis innovative algorithmic approach isto develop anaccurate estimation ofthesolid wasteproduction ratethatallows theidentification oftheoptimal numberand location ofthewastebins. Inthis way,municipalities aware ofsocial, economical andenvironmental factors related to wastemanagementcanachieve optimal planning fortheir services.
