Development of a design for SiPMs readout in cryogenic environment for large area photon detectors

2021
Within the framework of the DUNE experiment, the X-ARAPUCA detector is the chosen solution for the collection of Liquid Argon scintillation light, generated by the passage of charged particles. The X-ARAPUCA design exploits Silicon PhotoMultipliers (SiPM) that are spread over a wide area, and therefore require innovative solutions for ganging and signal transport. This paper describes the design of the boards required for the ganging and signal transmission of these Silicon Photo-Multipliers, introducing the technical challenges coming from years-long exposure to the harsh environment of Liquid Argon-based experiments. The initial validation tests of the boards are presented, along with results and an outlook on the next steps of this work.
