Boron-containing high carbon steel wire rod for manufacturing wires and production method thereof

2009
The invention provides a boron-containing high carbon steel wire rod for manufacturing wires and a production method thereof. The steel wire rod comprises the following components: 0.6 to 0.9 percent of C, 0.1 to 1.0 percent of Si, 0.3 to 1.0 percent of Mn, 0.001 to 0.010 percent of B, less than 0.002 percent of Al, less than 0.025 percent of P and S, and the balance of iron and inevitable impurity. The production method comprises molten iron pretreatment, converter smelting, low-frequency (LF) refining, continuous casting, continuous rolling and wire rolling. The production method is characterized in that: high-carbon tapping is adopted in the converter tapping process, and the content of carbon is controlled at 0.05 to 0.2 percent of the target component; 2 to 3 kg/t of white ash is used for covering a tank; and a low overheat continuous casting process schedule is used in the continuous casting process, and the overheat degree of the molten steel of the tundish is between 12 and 25 DEG C. Compared with the common process, by adopting the steel wire rod produced by the technology, when steel cords are produced, the wire breaking rate in the manufactured wire stranding process is reduced to 1 to 3 times per ton from 5 to 7 times per ton.
