New all-optical linear scanner and variable-power single-soliton generator using graded-nonlinear waveguides

1996
We propose a novel soliton generator based on graded-nonlinear waveguides. The advantage over current uniform-nonlinear devices is that most of the power of the guide is transferred by the first emitted soliton at a distance determined by the input power. Multisoliton emission is thus avoided, and the device can be used as a variable-power single-soliton generator, as a linear scanning element, or as the basis for more efficient soliton couplers.
