Assays form the backbone of the data generation and decision making process in drug discovery projects, and as such they have to be designed, built and routinely prosecuted with skill and care. This chapter explains the terminology and technologies behind common assays formats in drug discovery cascades, from how they are conceived and built to how the data they generate can be tested for short and long term suitability for effective data generation.
