Application of Electrohydraulic Metal Forming Equipment to various Industries and its Development for Mass Production

This paper presents the electrohydraulic metal forming equipment developed at the Shimadzu Seisakusho Ltd. and some applications using this equipment to the production of several industrial parts.The specifications, constructions and features of the equipment for short and medium run production to form difficult shapes of complex parts are discussed. Various industrial parts formed by this equipment are shown as examples, And the tooling requirement, versatility and economy of the process are discussed.with the aforementioned equipment and techniques as a base, new equipment for mass production has been developed. The problems of electrodes, capacitors, power supply, switching apparatus and others of this equipment are discussed. Especially, a design for the discharging chamber, which called the “Multiple part simultaneous forming system” and which makes mass production possible, is described.Description of this type of the equipment designed to make unique parts with application in the automotive and electrical industries are presented.
