Structure and properties of gel-embedded microbe carriers

The swelling-diffusion behavior,mechanical performance,nitrification activity and storability of gel-embedded bio-carriers LQ-1 for nitrifying bacteria are studied in this study.The results show that the interpenetrating holing-through structure(about 5 μm) is formed in the immobilized nitrifying bacteria cubes.When the compression rate is 85%,the compressive stress reaches 0.49 MPa.More than 95% of the diffusion process can be completed in 10 minutes.Immobilized nitrifying bacteria can survive less efficiently in 5℃.Nitrification activity keeps above 90% after 45 days.
