Prefusion emission of protons from the /sup 12/C+/sup 12/C system

1983
The present paper reports on a further study of the prefusion proton emission from the /sup 12/C+/sup 12/C system, observed for some low-lying and low-spin states in /sup 23/Na. Excitation functions for the /sup 12/C(/sup 12/C,p) /sup 23/Na reaction leading to low excited states in /sup 23/Na are reported for energy regions from 29.0 to 31.0 MeV (lab) in 100 keV steps and from 34.8 to 36.8 MeV (lab) in 200 keV steps. No correlated structure in these excitation functions has been found; however, angular distributions measured at 12.0, 22.8, 25.4, and 35.8 MeV (lab) show new evidence for the nonstatistical process. The observed features are qualitatively explained within the framework of the prefusion model.
