A skeleton with a cyst from an Early Medieval cemetery at Dziekanowice, Łubowo parish, Wielkopolska province, Poland

2015
Among 940 burials excavated so far at an Early Medieval cemetery dated to the 2nd half of 11th-12th century at Dziekanowice, Łubowo parish, a female skeleton with a petrified parasitic cyst, likely belonging to the cestode class (Cestoidea) was found. The skeleton was poorly equipped, which suggests that the woman belonged to a less wealthy family. With respect to the lesion, the skeleton was thoroughly examined morphologically and radiographically. Detailed investigation of the cyst (DNA, and histologic examination) is in progress.
