In 1974 to 2002, a total of 1461 patients aged above 60 years who had breast cancer were treated at the Russian Cancer Research Center, Russian Academy of Medical Sciences. Radiotherapy in combination with systemic hormonal therapy is undoubtedly effective and, in some cases, a reasonable alternative to any other treatment options. The fact that it can be made in the outpatient setting is of great social and psychological significance for elderly and senile patients in particular. Outpatient radiotherapy allows health care facilities to make the most efficient use of hospital beds.
