Establishment of normal reference range of venous whole blood lactate concentration

2005
Objective To establish the normal reference range of venous whole blood lactate concentration by enzyme-electrode method. Methods Enzyme-electrode method was used to determine venous whole blood lactate concentration in 78 normal Chinese individuals in Shanghai (male 41, female 37, 21~60 years old). Results ①The average value of venous whole blood lactate concentration was(1.15±0.33)mmol/L(range 0.68~1.86 mmol/L). The normal reference range for venous blood lactate concentration is 0.68~1.84 mmol/L and 0.68~2.03 mmol/L for men and women respectively.②There was no statistical difference among age subgroups(P 0.05).Conclusion The enzyme-electrode method has the advantage of taking less blood, simple, fast, and accurate. It can be used for monitoring the blood lactic acid level in diabetic patients, and also provide evidence for adjustment of drug dosage and diagnosis of acute or chronic lacticacidemia.
