COLORADO TRUCK SAFETY 2000: TRUCK CRASH CAUSALITY STUDY

The purpose of this study was to design a program that would reduce truck crashes and fatalities in Weld County, Colorado. The research phase of the program had three objectives: 1. research commercial vehicle crashes in Weld County through a combination of data analysis and historical study of past crashes and fatalities; 2. analyze the data to identify apparent causal factors and possible actions to decrease the incidence of future crashes and reduce future fatalities; 3. design a safety program that would effectively reduce commercial vehicle crashes and losses, through focused efforts to train and educate motor carriers and the general public; audit and evaluate safety practices; and enforce and inspect at the roadside.
