A study on young teachers' status of teaching practice and willingness of participating in teacher-related training in Peking University Health Science Center

Objective To understand the status of teaching practice and wishes to participate in teacher training and content and ways of it in young teachers from Peking University Health Science Center.Methods Self-designed questionnaire was used to conduct in all 370 young teachers under 45 years old in medical schools in Beijing.Epidata3.lsoftware was used to input the data and PASW18.0 software was used for statistical analysis.Results The most important goal to teach students were separately grasping knowledge(105,35.4%) and cultivating the ability of thinking(125,42.1%).The teachers' preferred teaching method was giving lectures,whose corresponding proportion was 48.5%.In all the teaching monitoring capabilities,preparing courses' ability scored highest(4.0±0.6)while reflecting ability scored lowest (3.3 ± 0.7).The number of people who was willing to participate in teacher training was 264 (84.3%).Conclusions Compared with the third round of reform of medical education,the teaching practice was relatively conservative.The vast majority of teachers had the willingness to participate in teacher training.The most promising approach to training was the guidance from experienced teachers and observing demonstration lessons.At the same time,the most promising training contents were teaching techniques and strategies,practical teaching methods and pedagogy expertise.
