Effectiveness of School-Based Environmental Education on Knowledge of Various Environmental Issues among School Adolescents in Palestine

2 Abstract: This research examines the impact of an 8-week school-based education intervention on environmental health knowledge of high school students in Palestine. Anonymous self-administered questionnaire was distributed to 240 high school students, from 11th and 12th graders. The baseline information was used to develop an educational package that was subsequently presented to the students of the same grades. Three months later, a post-test assessment was conducted using the same questionnaires, in which 116 students from the intervention and 120 students from the control groups provided their responses. The intervention group students were found to possess higher levels of environmental knowledge 3-months after the intervention than the control group. The findings showed significant differences between male and female students in both groups in term of environmental knowledge. It was concluded that implementation of environmental lessons was effective for increasing environmental knowledge in school students.
