Clinical significance and expression of stanniocalcin-2 protein detection in serum of gastric cancer patients

2014
Objective To explore the expression of stanniocalcin-2(STC-2) protein in serum of gastric cancer(GC) patients and its clinical significance. Methods STC-2 protein expression was determined by ELISA in serum of 75 GC patients pre-operation and post-operation, and in serum of 40 patients with benign gastric disease. Samples were collected from July 2007 to July 2010 in People's Hospital of Liyang City. Results The level of serum STC-2 in GC patients pre-operation was(1694.4±566.16) ng/L, which was much higher than that in patients with benign gastric disease(691.75±318.48) ng/L, the differences were statistically significant(P 0.001), and area under the curve(AUC) was 0.945(95% CI: 0.908-0.982, P 0.001). The serum STC-2 level was significantly decreased at postoperative 7-10 days(1126.0±419.43) ng/L, compared with preoperative level, the differences were statistically significant(P 0.001). Conclusion Serum STC-2 level may be a potential biomarker for early diagnosis and prognosis assessment of GC.
