An overview of theoretical and experimental approach to study environmental microflora

Abstract The understanding of microflora has enabled a deep insight into the environmental communities which adapt under extreme environmental conditions. Various methods have been employed for the understanding of these existing microflora which include both theoretical and experimental. The theoretical analysis is performed with the help of mathematical modeling and the experimental involves the approach involving metagenomics. With the advancement of technology, the concept of metagenomics was also developed which involved the use of experimental and statistical tools for better understanding of the microbial diversity. The study of the environmental microflora has enabled better understanding of the microflora enabling its better utilization in various environmental and biotechnological sectors. Thus the present chapter would deal with various theoretical models which have been developed and used for studying the microbial community, experimental techniques, and the integrated approach. Further the limitations and future prospect will also be discussed.
