ORTAOKUL ÖĞRENCİLERİNİN MATEMATİK ODAKLI AKADEMİK RİSK ALMA DAVRANIŞLARINI ETKİLEYEN FAKTÖRLERİN YAPISAL EŞİTLİK MODELLEMESİYLE İNCELENMESİ

2021
The study aims to determine the effects of secondary school students' gender, grade levels, attitude toward mathematics level, and mathematical metacognition awareness level on each other and mathematics-oriented academic risk-taking behaviors. This research was carried out using a correlational research model. The sample of the study comprised 895 secondary school students (6th, 7th, and 8th-grade) who are selected by using a convenience sampling method. In this research, the Mathematical Metacognition Awareness Scale, Attitudes towards Mathematics Scale, and Mathematics-Oriented Academic Risk-taking Scale were used as data collection tools. The data collected in the study were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). As a result of SEM analysis, 4 of 9 hypotheses developed based on theoretical information within the scope of the research were accepted and 5 of them were rejected. According to research results, it was determined that gender, attitude towards mathematics, mathematical metacognition awareness variables explain 68% of the variance related to academic risk-taking variable. Also, it was found in the study that the variables of gender and attitude towards mathematics explained 49% of the variance related to the mathematical metacognition awareness variable.
