KERAGAMAN SPESIES DAN POTENSI PERAN SERANGGA PADAPERKEBUNAN KAKAO (Theobroma cacao L.) MONOKULTUR DANPOLIKULTUR DI PAGERHARJO, SAMIGALUH, KULONPROGO

2014
Cocoa ( Theobroma cacao L. ) is one of Indonesia's main commodities of the plantation sector contributing to massive foreign exchange. In management, cocoa can be grown in monoculture and polyculture. Cocoa plantations can be a habitat for various members of the Class of Insects. The insects were factors influencing the fluctuation of cocoa production. The purpose of this study was to determine the diversity of insects species and their potential role of cocoa plantations. The research was conducted from June to November 2013 on monoculture and polyculture cocoa plantations in Pagerharjo, Samigaluh, Kulon Progo. Insects were collected by using a sweep net starting from 06.00 a.m. to 08.00 a.m. and 09:00 to 12:00 a.m., then by using pitfall traps at 06.00 a.m. to 16:00 p.m. however during the night insect collection using light trap starting from 20:30 to 22:00 p.m., then by using pitfall trap at 17:00 p.m. to 05:00 a.m. The results showed the insects collecting on monoculture areas were members of 10 orders , which consists of 34 families, 57 generas and 69 species, while from the polyculture obtained 11 orders of insect members, comprising 42 families, 71 generas, and 83 species, so it can be concluded that the diversity of insect species collecting from polyculture cacao plantations were higher than monoculture. The collecting Insect have many type of mouth part, such as siphoning type, piercing-sucking, chewing, and lapping, which resulting the insect probably have many roles on the cocoa plantation, as herbivores, predators, pollinators, decompossers, and disease vectors.
