Analysis of Microstrip Patch Antenna with Multiple Parasitic Patches and Shorting Vias for Bandwidth Enhancement

Analysis of a microstrip patch antenna with multiple parasitic patches and shorting vias for bandwidth enhancement is carried out in order to identify modes on the fed triangular patch and parasitic patches to put forth a clear explanation about the same. Fed and parasitic patches are simulated individually, and then, combined structure is studied and mode identification is done by comparing overall modal frequencies with that of the frequencies of individual patches. Also, modified configuration of shorted antenna is proposed which resulted in a simulated bandwidth of 1056 MHz and measured bandwidth of 1130 MHz.
