Background: Children born prematurely often have a patent ductus arteriosus (PDA). In a symptomatic neonate, surgical ligation of the PDA is the standard when pharmacologic therapy either fails or is contraindicated. Trans-catheter closure of the PDA in extremely premature neonates is a relatively new technique. The objective of this study was to describe our early clinical experience of trans-catheter device closure of PDA in premature neonates who require positive pressure ventilation (PPV) and to identify risk factors for poor respiratory outcomes.
