Some fundamental aspects of manufacturing science highlighted by dymamics and thermodynamics

1988
Abstract Manufacturing engineering is still considered today in many ways as an art requiring considerable skill because new manufacturing systems are generally developed by empirical modification of proven systems. This paper investigates the scientific principles of manufacturing systems and particularly discusses engineering systems, thermodynamic systems, thermodynamic processes, process implementation systems and two-phase flow modeling of two-element PIS by material removal. The proposed model particularly emphasizes entropy generation. A discussion of strong fluctuations from the system equilibrium is included to illustrate the role of different multi-phase flow structures.
