Summary Medicinal plants in the form of dry drug should present a series of specifications, among which we found the microbiological ones, to guarantee their quality. In order to reduce the microbial contamination in this species Ocimum basilicum L var. lactucaefolium, commonly known as white basil, the lavage and disinfection chemical method was developed with a sodium hypochlorite solution so that it may meet the necessary physical and chemical requisites to be consumed by the population and to be used as a raw material in the production of phytodrugs.
