The paper describes AUTOGUIDE, the electronic route guidance system designed for use in London. The overall program of AUTOGUIDE related research covers six main areas of study: traffic movements; driver response; central control; guidance networksl traffic data; and pilot scheme evaluation. The results presented are based on the use of a conventional traffic assignment model and are illustrative only, indicating the probable direction and scale of the effects.
