Flavonoids in Treating Psoriasis

2018
Abstract Psoriasis is a systemic immunemediated skin disease, characterized by inflammation and joint manifestations with a range of comorbidities that include metabolic and psychological disorders. Despite recent advances in understanding the mechanisms involved in psoriasis, current treatments produce often-varying results. Additionally, the cost of novel synthetic agents makes their use impractical for many patients. Therefore, the request of new antipsoriatic agents with a low profile of adverse effects and convenient cost continues. Natural compounds have been traditionally used since ancient times. Recently, the benefits of some phytochemicals have been demonstrated for skin care. A number of these are currently being developed, used, or considered for use in dermatologic disorders such as psoriasis. In this chapter, we report the most recent studies on flavonoids as bioactive compounds useful in treating psoriasis.
