Application of Smart Technologies in Urban Water Supply System of Smart Cities

People living in urban settlements get water through the water distribution system, which acts as the nerves of the city. This system caters water to the domestic, industrial, commercial and public needs of the city. A smart city aims to improve the living standards and economy of citizens by achieving environmental and social sustainability. This chapter discusses the regular governance of water distribution in the city and the vision of a smart city. Various technologies available for smart water management such as SCADA, design and analysis software for water distribution system, and the geographic information system are discussed. SCADA instrumentation and architecture are discussed. The availability of technologies that integrate data from the field and the knowledge base can improve smart water management in cities.
