Design of Particulate Systems by Variation of the Characteristics of Biogenic Particles

Microparticles are of outstanding importance in many areas today. Their synthesis is often very expensive to achieve certain properties. Therefore, particles from biological sources offer new possibilities since nature provides a wide range of particle shapes and sizes. In this work bioparticles of different properties are presented, which can be prepared from plant pollen. The focus is on three applications for these bioparticles. Besides its use as reference particles for particle shape analysis, the usage of purified sporopollenin microcapsules for the chromatographic separation of macromolecules is described. A third application is the use of sporopollenin microcapsules for immobilization of polymers or drugs.
