Preferência por Mapa 2D ou Mapa 3D para navegação em automóvel: análise da influência do ângulo de inclinação da câmera

2021
The aim of this work is to evaluate the preference between 2D map and 3D map, for the task of route following during the in-car navigation. A total of 18 map was designed, by considering three pitch angles of the camera (89°, 45°, 30°), each one having three distance variations between the car and the maneuver (500 m, 250 m, 50 m), as well the type of maneuver (simple or complex / roundabout). A group of 30 experienced drivers with In-Car Navigation System participated in an experiment. The results indicate that most drivers preferred 3D map when they are preparing to maneuver in roundabouts. However, 3D maps having low pitch angle of the camera (30°) were the least preferred to aid with simple maneuver. According to the reasons pointed out, 2D map facilitated to estimate distances, and 3D map displayed more amount of information, related to the route segment to be followed, as well to favor correspondence between perspective view and the view along the road. Considerations found out could support the automotive industry in process of selecting the map design for different in-car navigation system tasks.
