An Efficient Excitation of Iodine Atoms by Mixing of Two Microwave Discharged Flows of I2 and Oxygen Containing Singlet Oxygen.

1997
Excitation of iodine atoms, i.e., the transition I2P1/2–I2P3/2, effectively occurred, when discharged iodine was mixed with a discharged oxygen flow containing singlet oxygen, O2(1Δ). We demonstrate that microwave discharge of molecular iodine is useful for the formation of atomic iodine and that the resultant atom is excited by O2(1Δ) in a two discharge-flow system.
