Surface modeling- Designing products in Industry 4.0

2020
Industry 4.0 requires the design of multifaceted products aimed at a global market with the ability to be easily redesigned to meet new trends. Surface modeling is an option for the development of this kind of product. Multidisciplinary teams need the employee of robust computational tools to support the demands of Smart factories. The aim of this work is to share practices about the use of a computational tool (CATIA V5) to design products in Industry 4.0. In the beginning, we review the literature about the definition of products for industry 4.0. Later, students of Industrial Design, show some of their projects where they used the Digital Mockup module to generate virtual prototypes, parameterized their models, and performed finite element analysis, also a case study is presented. At the end of the course, a survey was applied to know the students’ perception of the use of this computational tool.
