[Uninterrupted presence for 5 to 13 years of the same OM-GA intra-uterine device: histological study of the endometrium: 73 cases (authors transl)]
1969
The OM-GA is an inert IUD produced and marketed in France. It comes in 14 slightly different variations of the same basic shape its width going from 20 to 41 mm and its height from 15 to 42 mm. A study on patients aged 30-52 wearers of OM-GA for 5 to 13 years was conducted to investigate histological changes of the endometrial mucosa. Biopsies were obtained on the 23rd day of the cycle. In 22 cases the histological aspect of the mucosa was normal; there were 3 anovulatory cycles in patients with average age 44.3 1 case of athrophic endometrium in a 48-year-old wearer of OM-GA for 13 years 3 cases of estrogen excess and 38 cases of maturative asynchrony in patients of average age 40. There were no inflammatory lesions and only 1 case of subacute endometritis in a patient with the same device for 12 years. Failure rate was 1%. This study emphasizes the excellent endometrial tolerance of this type of IUD. (Summary in ENG)
