A comparison of computer and wind-tunnel models of turbulence around the Silsoe Structures Building
1993
Abstract This paper considers the possibility of predicting both the mean wind pressure and the fluctuating pressures by using a finite volume computer code in conjuction with the k-e turbulence model. The building studied in this case is the low-rise Silsoe Structures Building. Results from the computer model are compared with wind-tunnel measurements. It is shown that although rms velocities measured in the wind-tunnel show many of the features of the computer predicted turbulent kinetic energy field there are significant differences. Analysis of the energy equations leads to an equation, which predicts the rms pressure fluctuations, based on only the mean pressure field and the approach flow turbulence.
