CVD Growth of Transition Metal Dichalcogenides MX2 (M: Mo, W, X: Se, S) #

2020
Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) in their single-layer (S-L) crystalline form are nowadays an essential piece of the nanotechnology. CVD plays a crucial role in the development of the science and technology of S-L 2D materials. CVD is a versatile and inexpensive method to grow high-quality crystals, and has been widely adopted for the growth of single- and few-layers TMDs.In the rest of the chapter, we will explore how CVD is used to grow the four basic semiconducting TMDs-MoS2, WS2, MoSe2, and WSe2. We will review how it is possible to create alloys in single-layer form, as well as heterojunctions and substitutional doping for tuning the bandgap.
