Temperature Sensor Based on Mach-Zehnder Interferometer with Corroded Photonic Crystal Fiber

2019
A temperature sensor by using a corroded photonic crystal fiber (PCF) based on Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. It is fabricated by sandwiching a corroded PCF between two standard single mode fibers (SMFs) with the original region of the air holes of the PCF transforming into a hexagonal ring air cavity. The proposed sensor is linearly responsive to temperature within the range from 25°C to 100°C, with the sensitivity of 2.9 pm/°C, which makes it a highly promising for practical high temperature monitoring application.
