The paper characterizes activities of small and medium enterprises. In particular, the author deals with some aspects of mechanism of economic management of trade, catering and services. State support aiming at creation of favorable environment for small and medium enterprises on Russian consumer market is one of the key problems. Long-term social and economic significance and role of small enterprises have been revealed.
