A system for semi-automated testing in industrial practice

2015
In the recent years the complexity of software products has increased tremendously. Many software companies strive to achieve higher quality software with shorter delivery time. Today software testing is used by the companies to increase the quality of their products and to ensure that the client requirements are met. In the industrial practice, veri cation and validation activities are often performed with pricey, laborious and error-prone manual test practices. Developers are usually under the pressure to release faster, thus, quality often becomes hindered. A possible solution to this problem is test automation, but the available tools and techniques bear a lack of generic applicability. One way to mitigate these problems is to unify various test methods and practices. This thesis presents a design science research, which explores the challenges of uni cation. Additionally, it tries to nd a solution to the problems that these challenges present by developing a system for semi-automated testing (SeAT). The thesis also analyzes the e ects of SeAT on the testing processes at a case company.
