The intensity of free radical oxidation and activity of antioxidant system in the nerve tissue and blood have been studied in hypoxia and in shortterm hypobaric preconditioning. Acute cerebral ischemia leads to activation of the free radical oxidation. It destabilizes the membrane structures of nerve cell, disturbs functioning of the neuronal enzymes and they appear in blood. The short-term hypobaric preconditioning has a protective action on the membrane of nerve cells. It creates the conditions for optimal functioning of the membrane-associated enzymes and adaptation to hypoxia.
