Research of Communication Design: a synesthetic approach

2000
The paper deals with the theme of the research of communication design starting from the assumption that any communicative artefact, both based on only one sensorial register and multimedial, solicits, refers to and interacts with a whole of information – acquired (inside the individual) or concomitant (physically present in the external environment) – by which its intrinsic nature is modified. Therefore we believe in the necessity of methods of research in which acquired, and acquirable, learning should converge with the theory, practice and praxis of the design itself. Under this perspective, some approaches to problem solving used in basic design – though mainly referred only to the visual register – are seen as concrete operative methods of research for the design of multisensorial/multimedial artefacts.
