Generation of Kr(3P0) atoms in a flow reactor: Reactions with CO, N2, NF3, and F2

1989
Abstract Optical pumping of atoms from the Kr(5s, 3 P 2 ) state to the Kr(5p′, 2p 3 ) state with a cw dye laser followed by subsequent radiative decay has been used to convert ≈23% of the concentration in the Kr( 3 P 2 ) state to the Kr( 3 P 0 ) state in a flow reactor. The CO (b 3 Σ + , ν′ = 0, 1-a 3 Π) emission can be used as a diagnostic test for Kr( 3 P 0 ) in the presence of Kr( 3 P 2 ). Quenching of Kr( 3 P 0 ) by N 2 apparently leads to dissociation. The degree of conservation of the Kr + ( 2 P 1 2 ) ion-core configuration in the reaction of Kr( 3 P 0 with NF 3 and F 2 was monitored by observing the propensity for KrF(D) formation.
