Akzeptanz, Toleranz und Wirksamkeit von milupa Comformil bei Säuglingen mit kleineren Ernährungs- und Verdauungsproblemen

2000
Young infants have nutritional and digestive problems relatively often. The reasons for the regurgitations, colic and constipation connected with this cannot generally be diagnosed, although the problems can become serious for parents and child. Drug therapy is, however, usually not necessary. Management of these gastrointestinal aims at alleviation of the symptoms by changing feeding habits according to a hypothetical aetiology. Since such nutritional problems are unspecific in nature, the aetiology is unclear and they can occur in various combinations, the optimal composition of a special formula for infants is still uncertain. A new formula for infants has been developed containing various components which can be expected to solve these general nutritional problems. A controlled acceptance and tolerance test was carried out with 51 test persons over a period of 14 weeks to investigate the efficiency of this new formula in avoiding minor nutritional problems. Both test and control groups consumed the same amount of food and growth with 34.5 ± 24.6 g/d compared to 34.2 ± 10.9 g/d was identical in all cases. The mothers filled in a questionnaire about the infants’ health during the test period. During this time 62 % of the mothers reported an improvement in gastro-intestinal symptoms in the first week rising to 77 % in the second week for the group receiving the modified nutrition. Only 20 % of the control group reported an improvement in the first week, and 23 % in the second week. The questionnaire asked about regurgitations, hunger, crying with and without cramps, constipation and general abdominal distress. At the end of the investigations (week 14), 92 % of the mothers in the test group were convinced that the symptoms had improved significantly. Especially cases of constipations and abdominal distress showed highly significant improvement to the start of the test. The efficacy of this innovative composition has been thoroughly tested in other investigations and was found during this application test to fulfil the expectations of mothers of infants with minor nutritional problems.
