Use of a sliding anvils apparatus for high temperature‐high pressure studies

1980
We describe the pressure‐temperature performances of a sliding anvils apparatus, the SAD 2, and present a refined calculation of its loading programs at normal and high temperature which takes account of the pressure gradient in the cell. We present typical cells and power‐temperature curves determined by thermocouples at high pressure up to 100 kbar–1500 °C. The maximum volume of the sample for the above PT conditions is ∼60 mm3. The apparatus was tested as a tool for high temperature‐high pressure synthese by synthetizing diamonds by the catalyst method.
