Selective harmonic elimination method for multilevel inverter: (5- level inverter with 5-switches)

2017
There are many limitations in extracting power from renewable energy resources. The power extracting methods need to be improved to minimize the power demand and scarcity. To extract power from photovoltaic cells multilevel inverter (MLI) is used, since it is an effective and practical solution for high power demand and reducing harmonics. Such inverters produce a desired output voltage from dc input by controlling the switches. Performance analysis of 5- level inverter with 5-switches using selective harmonic elimination method (SHEM) is done here. The topology used in this technique reduces the number of power switches when compared to the conventional H-bridge multilevel inverter. Selective Harmonics Elimination Stepped Waveform (SHESW) method is implemented to eliminate the lower order harmonics. The harmonic reduction is achieved by selecting appropriate switching angles. In this paper third order harmonic has been eliminated. The performance has been analyzed by the MATLAB/Simulink tool.
