Comparison of Strength Between Angular and Elbow Frame Joint on Fiberglass Boats Construction

2019
The strength of the frame is very important in ship design. in Indonesia there is a principle, the design of frame connections refers to the class rules of the Biro Klasifikasi Indonesia (BKI) or Indonesian Classification Bureau. However, very often there are cracked connections between the side frame and bottom frame on a fiberglass boat. For this reason, it is necessary to analyze and modify the Model of the frame joint so will found a frame joint with better strength. This study investigates modification of the frame joint and analyzing the strength of the connection of the frame with the finite element method (FEM). The final goal is to get a comparison of the stress distributions that occur in all the joint models designed and to compare the stresses. In this study using the main data of boat: the length overall (LOA) is 10.30 meters, breadth (B) is 1.20 meters, height is 0.90 meters and draft (T) is 0.40 meters. the Result is the first model is better than the second model or the joint angular frame model turns out to be better than the elbow frame Joint model which is proven because the stress voltage is smaller is 5.04 MPa while the second model reaches 65 MPa
