Prevention or mitigation of induced by combustion gas steel corrosion

2011
The extraction of oil and natural gas from underground oil and gas reservoirs using gas injections may be an additional purpose for the capture and storage of carbon dioxide. This can be done where the supplied gas for gas injection is at least partly of carbon dioxide from a process for separating and storing carbon dioxide. The corrosion of steel in a gas transport system due to the presence of carbon dioxide, water and oxygen can be prevented or at least mitigated by the use of a corrosion inhibitor for preventing corrosion of steel in the presence of oxygen and carbon dioxide or attenuates. The corrosion inhibitors may include alkyl succinic acids, alkylsuccinic and trimer acids.
