The article considers the impact of nuclear energy on the main economic and environmental indicators of the country, including GDP per capita, economic independence, energy independence, CO2 emissions, and living standards. The formation of the energy system of Ukraine and its current state are highlighted. The share and significance of each generation for the unified power system of Ukraine is indicated. The authors emphasize an importance of nuclear energy for the economy of Ukraine. The factors that are significant for the development of generation in view of the Paris Agreement and global trends in energy development are indicated. The relationship between the level of development of the nuclear energy sector and the overall development of the country has been studied. The study examines the state of four key indicators from different areas of the country, which provide an assessment of the general state of the country. The study was conducted on the Peer group of countries that have nuclear power plants (NPPs) in the energy structure. The level of the studied indicators among the group of countries and Ukraine is compared. The dynamics of change of the demand for energy for the last 50 years are indicated. An attention is paid to the development trends of the nuclear generation of the G7 countries. The dependence of the indicator of the level of human development and the share of atomic generation in the energy balance of countries have been studied. The significance of the nuclear sphere in the general development of energy of Ukraine is revealed. The generating capacities and the actual production of electricity in Ukraine are compared. The study shows an increase in the global average annual temperature since 1980. The amount of CO2 emissions from electricity generation at different stations was compared, and it was found that nuclear generation is the safest. After geothermal and wind generation. The CO2 emissions in different countries have been compared, and it has been determined that countries with a large share of nuclear energy have lower emission levels than others. The peculiarities of nuclear energy that argue the feasibility of its further development in Ukraine are summarized.
