Determining Magnetorheological Coupling Clutch Damping Characteristics by the Rotary Shafts Shear Deformation

2019
The article shows an approach to determining the damping properties of a magnetorheological coupling clutch by shear deformation of rotating shafts. The irregularity of the shaft rotation speed is caused by the irregularity of the torque of the diesel engine and the synchronous machine and is manifested due to the cyclical operation of the diesel engine. The article describes an approach for estimating the elastic and damping properties of a magnetorheological coupling clutch that connects the shafts of a diesel engine and a generator at a power plant of an autonomous object. This estimate is based on the determination of the ratio of torque from torsional vibrations on the driven and driving rotating shafts. According to the calculations, the magnetorheological coupling clutch should dampen the torsional vibrations of the diesel shaft three times at an irregularity of its rotation frequency of 2.657%. This causes a decrease in momentary irregularity of the rotation frequency of the generator shaft to 0.886%. This eliminates emergency operation of the diesel engine and synchronous generator, which can significantly extend the life of the power plant of an autonomous facility.
